About
As a Māori scholar, my interest has been in the mobility of Māori people around New Zealand and transnationally. I have researched and published in the area of Māori diasporas in several sites with a particular interest in how conversations about Indigenous diaspora can draw on work about settler colonialism and histories of Indigenous-Indigenous relationships to foreground, rather than obscure or undermine, Indigenous sovereignty in new home places. My engagements (research and teaching) within Pacific Studies extends these interests beyond my own community to the broader complexities of ancestral, recent, contemporary and future Pacific migration.
